Toshiba TG02 early review: Rear Windows

We have to give props to Toshiba for being first on the fast-phone dancefloor with the Snapdragon-powered Toshiba TG01, but its resistive touchscreen and clumsy user interface left it to boogie alone.

The Toshiba TG02 definitely improves on its older sibling, but with Windows Phone 7 Series stealing the limelight and the HTC HD2 always on our minds, we think the TG02 might have to practise its solos.

A capacitive touchscreen makes the TG02 livelier to use than its predecessor, but in our early tests, the user interface still isn't the slickest one out there. Nevertheless, there's plenty of room on the TGO2's 100mm (4.1-inch) screen and a 1GHz processor to keep it snappy.

Wi-Fi, HSPA for fast Web surfing over 3G, and a microSD card are all icing on the TG02 cake.

Windows Mobile 6.5 is behind the scenes on the TG02, which means access to the Windows Marketplace app store and good Exchange email support.

The TG02's huge screen and support for a range of media formats make it a handy phone for movie lovers.

The TG02 has a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back, which we'll be testing in depth in our full review.

The keyboard on the TG02 doesn't look like much, but at least the huge capacitive touchscreen should give you plenty of room to flex your fingers.

Windows Mobile 6.5 isn't as ugly as earlier versions, but menus are still convoluted and not as finger-friendly as its competitors.
