This month in games: May 2010
This month sees a handful of high-profile releases sure to satisfy gamers of all kinds. May brings us a trio of racing titles, a Prince of Persia game aiming to find its roots, and the sequel to one of the Wii's most popular games of all time.
Lost Planet 2 (360, PS3, PC)--May 11
Lost Planet 2 returns you to the planet EDN III 10 years after the events in the first Lost Planet game. Instead of a frozen-over tundra, the environment has gone through drastic changes, completely reshaping its surface.
Skate 3 (360, PS3)--May 11
The third iteration of the most realistic skateboarding simulator is here, introducing brand-new tricks and challenges. In Skate 3, you're in charge of creating a skateboard company from scratch and hiring skaters to join the team. Online play is a huge element in the game, too, allowing you to create and share custom board parks.
Red Dead Redemption (360, PS3)--May 18
In Red Dead Redemption, you take on the role of John Marston, an ex-criminal who must hunt down his former partners in crime. The open world game thrusts you into the end of America's Wild West, where you'll travel via horseback and meet period characters along your way.
Alan Wake (360)--May 18
Alan Wake is a psychological thriller that takes place in a small mountain town. Playing as Wake, you'll help him uncover a novel he can't remember writing and locate the whereabouts of his missing wife. Set up like a modern dramatic television series, Alan Wake promises a unique experience for gamers.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (360, PS3, PSP, DS, Wii, PC)--May 18
The Forgotten Sands is a return to the puzzle-solving, sword-wielding Prince of Persia games of years past. This time around, the Prince harnesses the powers of the elements, using them to his advantage on his journey. Set to release alongside the movie adaptation of The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia fans are in for a treat this month.
Split/Second (360, PS3, PC)--May 18
Split/Second takes action racing to a whole new level. Set within a TV reality show, the game allows you to trigger environmental chaos in order to take down fellow drivers. With various tracks and shortcuts, there's no way to experience the same race twice.
Trauma Team (Wii)--May 18
Trauma Center fans have a new game in the series to be excited about. Trauma Team lets you take on multiple medical roles including general surgeon, diagnostician, emergency medical technician, orthopedic surgeon, endoscope technician, and more.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)--May 23
The sequel to one of the Wii's best games, Super Mario Galaxy 2 features tons of new worlds and levels to explore, new power-ups, and everyone's favorite dinosaur, Yoshi!
UFC Undisputed (360, PS3, PSP)--May 25
UFC fighting action returns in Undisputed, where players can customize their fighters and train them, ultimately going from the gym to the ring in an in-depth career mode.
ModNation Racers (PS3)--May 25
ModNation Racers features an incredibly detailed track designer that lets you create and share tracks on the PlayStation Network. Best described as what would result if LittleBigPlanet and Sim City went for a race, ModNation Racers is highly customizable and has a great sense of humor.
Blur (360, PS3, PC)--May 25
Blur is an action racing game that gives players various weapons and power-ups to take down their fellow drivers.
An already-impressive beta has proven to be a strong online multiplayer mode, so there's already a lot to be excited about.
