This eagle-faced jet is Embraer's biggest yet

Few things can be as scary as a giant eagle bearing down on you, but this brand-new jet from Embraer promises nothing more frightening than increased fuel efficiency.

The E195-E2 is the largest plane yet from Embraer, with a potential capacity of 146 people. The interior is modular however, so different airlines can configure the number of seats as they choose.

It took to the skies above the Paris Air Show this week. Without fuel, passengers or luggage on board it was able to manoeuvre almost as well as the eagle painted on its face.

On the ground, it was safely pulled around by a tug. The E195-E2 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney engines, which can maintain a cruising speed of Mach 0.82.

The Eagle face is painted on just for show while on display, sadly. Personally I'd like to fly on more planes that had lovely birds emblazoned on them. 

The plane can fly at a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet and has a range of just over 4,500 kilometres.

At the Paris Air Show, with so little weight on board, the plane could make a steep ascent right off the runway.

That's a big tail.
