These smart home gadgets work with both Siri and Alexa
Want to control your connected home using voice commands, but can't decide between Siri and Alexa? Well, why not both?
Nanoleaf Aurora
Nanoleaf's "Aurora" lights are triangular LED panels that change colors on demand. The modular design lets you arrange them on your walls however you like, and with built-in support for Apple HomeKit, you can control them using Siri commands.
New in 2017: Amazon Alexa controls that also let you control the panels by talking to the popular voice assistant that lives within the Amazon Echo smart speaker.
Nanoleaf Ivy
You'll find that same combination of Alexa and Siri support in Nanoleaf's Ivy smart bulbs, too. They don't change colors, but they boast a nerd-approved, 3D-printed jigsaw assembly that puts the diodes on the outside of the bulb, as well as a very nifty dodecahedron-shaped ZigBee hub.
Lutron Caseta In-Wall Dimmer Switches
Lutron is another strong smart lighting option that works with both Alexa and Siri. They aren't the cheapest option, but we use these Caseta smart switches in the CNET Smart Home, and think they're terrific.
Lutron Caseta Plug-in Dimmer Switches
Lutron's plug-in dimmer switches for lamps work with both Siri and Alexa, too.
Lutron Bridge
Just make sure you're using the Lutron Bridge to control your gear, because that's the part that brings Siri into play. You can also control Lutron Caseta gadgets using the Wink Hub, but then you'll only get Alexa support.
Incipio CommandKit Wi-Fi Light Switch
At the CES tech expo that kicked off 2017, Incipio announced that it'll soon start selling a Wi-Fi-enabled smart dimmer switch that will work with both Siri and Alexa.
Incipio CommandKit Wi-Fi Power Strip
Incipio's making a Wi-Fi power strip, too -- you'll be able to tell Alexa or Siri to turn each one of those four plugs on or off individually.
Philips Hue
Philips Hue's color-changing LEDs are another smart lighting mainstay that you can control using both Siri and Alexa. They also work with the Google Home smart speaker, which actually gives you three means of voice control.
Hue Bridge
Like with Lutron, the key is the Philips Hue Bridge that quarterbacks your bulbs. So long as you're using the current-gen version pictured here, you'll be good to go with Siri and Alexa.
Philips Hue White
That also means that you don't actually need to get the most expensive Hue kit in order to get to voice-activated promised land. My personal recommendation: go with the Philips Hue White Starter Kit, which costs just $80 (or £60, if you're in the UK). The bulbs don't change colors, but you can always add in full color bulbs later, a la carte style.
Lifx (coming soon)
Late last year, Philips Hue's chief rival Lifx announced that the latest generation of its color-changing bulbs would be adding Siri support in February of 2017. They already work well with Alexa, so that'll be a nice addition when it arrives.
iDevices Socket
If you don't want to buy newfangled LEDs, then consider the iDevices Socket. It isn't necessarily your most cost effective option, but it'll let you smarten up any light bulb you like, and it works with both Siri and Alexa.
iDevices Switch
iDevices also makes a plug-in smart switch that lets you control anything you plug in behind it using your phone, or by telling Siri or Alexa to turn it on and off.
iDevices Outdoor Switch
If you want to smarten up some lights or appliances outside of your home, then check out the weather-proofed outdoor version of the iDevices Switch. Like its indoor brethren, it's all right with Alexa and simpatico with Siri.
iDevices Instant Switch
iDevices has some new gear headed our way this year, including this "instant switch" that offers wireless control of other iDevices products. Stick it to your wall, and it'll stick to the Alexa/Siri playbook.
iDevices Thermostat
Last stop on the iDevices Express: this iDevices Thermostat. Aside from programming it from your phone, you can tell Siri or Alexa to nudge the temperature up and down.
Ecobee3
You won't see Nest in this gallery -- it works with Alexa, but not Siri. For access to both, you might want to consider one of Nest's top competitors, Ecobee. Its flagship Ecobee3 smart thermostat was one of the first gadgets to work with both Apple and Amazon's voice assistants.
Ecobee3 Lite
If you want to save a little money, the Ecobee3 Lite offers that same compatibility with Siri and Alexa for less -- although it doesn't come with any remote sensors, which might be Ecobee's best feature.
Honeywell Lyric T5 Thermostat
Here's another option connected climate control that works with Siri and Alexa: the Honeywell Lyric T5. At $150, it's priced well below options from names like Nest and Ecobee, but it still comes packed with useful smart home integrations. A similar model, the Lyric T6, is available in the UK for £180.
August Smart Lock
What about smart locks, though? While there are a couple that already work with Siri, only one of them also works with Alexa, and that's the August Smart Lock. It's actually a device that sits over top of your existing deadbolt to turn it automatically when asked.
