The Xiaomi Mi Pad is oddly familiar (pictures)

The Mi Pad is a 7.9-inch tablet from Beijing-based Xiaomi. It packs powerful hardware in the form of an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot. It'll cost Chinese tablet fans just 1,499 Chinese yuan (roughly $240, £145, AU$260).

The 7.9-inch display, like the iPad Mini, has a resolution of 2,048x1,536 pixels for a retina-quality 326ppi.

The tablet runs a heavily customised version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat, called MIUI.

In keeping with the copycat chassis, the OS has a decidedly iOS 7 feel, including the wallpaper colors and the transparency effects.

At 8.5mm, the Mi Pad is slightly thicker than the 7.5mm iPad Mini.

The plastic rear comes in a variety of colors, from bright yellow to pink. It looks like a huge iPhone 5C.

The resemblance is even more obvious with the white version.

The tablet has two rear speakers.

Unlike Apple's tablets, the Xiaomi slate comes with a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB.
