Red Dead Redemption 2

Perhaps the worst-kept secret in all of gaming, Rockstar finally went public with Red Dead Redemption 2 in the fall of 2016. To assume the game will stay on schedule for a fall 2017 release could probably be labeled as optimistic, but we're crossing our fingers that we'll be able to play it before 2018.

Persona 5

Persona 5 has already been released in Japan to rave reviews and it heads stateside in April. The RPG has been highly anticipated in the US for years as the cult-favorite series put players in the role of a high school student in Tokyo.

Prey

Prey's debut trailer wowed us at E3 2016, and now that we've seen some real-life gameplay we're extremely anxious to see what this FPS reboot will provide.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Is RE7 a return to Resident Evil's roots? Maybe. For the first time in the franchise's history, the game will be played in a first-person perspective, which, judging from our brief time with the game, makes for a much more creepy experience. If that's not enough, RE7 is also fully playable in PlayStation VR.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

We loved the first South Park turn-based RPG for its amazing writing and self-awareness. It's tough to expect anything less from the sequel.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

The next chapter in BioWare's action-RPG introduces a new main character and takes places 600 years after the first three games.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild will finally, finally, release in 2017 on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Everything we've played of the game looks like it has all the right stuff, so we're quite confident in our excitement. We've waited years for this one, so what's a few more months?

For Honor

We're interested to see how well For Honor performs as an online hack-and-slack action game, but we won't have to wait long. For Honor hits on Valentine's Day.

God of War

We're not sure if the God of War reboot will hit in 2017, but we needed to mention it here just because of how great its E3 2016 debut was. The game has evolved to a third-person perspective and new narrative for Kratos, as it appears his son is now his battling companion.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Ever since we witnessed its jaw-dropping debut, Horizon Zero Dawn has captivated us with its striking visuals and mysterious storyline. Having spent some decent time with the game, we're eagerly awaiting its Feburary release.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo's video premiere of the company's brand-new console, the Switch, certainly left us with more questions than answers. But we won't have to wait long to get acquainted with the hybrid console -- it hits in March.

That Mario Switch game

With word that the new Zelda game won't be a Switch launch title, it's logical to assume that there might be a new Mario game debuting alongside the new console. The biggest hint: the Mario gameplay footage superimposed in the Switch's video unveiling.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ghost Recon's latest title brings the series to an open-world format, giving players the option of how to systematically dismantle a dangerous drug cartel.

Days Gone

A 2017 release for Days Gone is likely some wishful thinking, but we can't deny that we're intrigued with this survival zombie apocalypse game.

Detroit: Become Human

The latest narrative-heavy, player choice-driven game from David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream is upon the gaming world. Detroit's story follows several playable characters in a world where androids walk among humans.

Cuphead

Cuphead is the most unique-looking title we've seen in a very long time, but unfortunately the game seems to be consistently delayed. We're confident we'll see Cuphead in 2017, though, so we can finally enjoy all of the 1930s cartoon-style platforming action it has to offer.

Death Stranding

First debuted with a striking and bizarre trailer at E3 2016, Death Stranding continues to mystify audiences around the world. We don't know much about the game's plot, the game style or much of anything, but the fact that we're getting a new game from Hideo Kojima is more than enough of a reason to be excited about this one.

Project Scorpio

Not to be outdone by the PS4 Pro, Microsoft has a new step-up console of its own that's currently dubbed Project Scorpio. We don't know too much about the new machine, save for the fact that its specs do seem to outpace the hardware of the PS4 Pro. We'll have much more on Microsoft's next Xbox as its release nears next holiday season.
