The look of Minecraft, but as a first-person shooter (pictures)

Pixlgun 3D lets you play a Minecraft-style survival shooter across several different maps.

Good graphics, good action

Though the graphics have that Minecraft feel, they look great as you move around the levels. Looking and moving around is smooth as you blow away zombies.

Enough with the tutorial

The tutorial level is helpful for getting the controls down when you first play the game, but it's annoying to have to go through it every time you play.

You get better guns as you play

In later levels you'll find light machine guns and AK-47s. They are a big improvement over the one-shot pistols in the early part of the game.

Local multiplayer is fun, but not perfect

We tested the local multiplayer here in the office and it worked pretty smoothly. One big issue I had was that you can always see the names of your opponents (through walls and across the map), so there is no sneaking up on people.

Create a skin for Minecraft

The editor is definitely useful for creating skins, and there are a few presets if you don't want to do it yourself. You can edit every surface of your blocky character, but you'll only be able to use your skin in the desktop version of Minecraft.

The store is no bargain

The store lets you buy the very important Elixir of Resurrection, but makes you pay $1.99 for each one. There are other glamor items like the crystal sword or the miner's pick, but they're hardly worth the price. The same is true for the extra ammo or health.
