The Jaguar I-Pace is coming to production and it's spectacular

Jaguar claims some of the I-Pace's looks come from the C-X75 supercar concept. It's most obvious in the radically styled hood.

You could fit a whole suitcase in the hood's giant vent.

Since electric cars don't need big motors up front, Jaguar moved the whole cabin forward atop the body.

The result is part SUV, part supercar.

There's still plenty of visible F-Pace in there, though.

Since it's heading into production in 2018, it has actual facts and figures along with these pretty pictures.

A pair of electric motors, situated at each axle, delivers just under 400 horsepower and about 516 pound-feet of torque.

The car's drag coefficient is a slippery 0.29.

All that combines to produce an electric range of about 220 miles by EPA-cycle estimates. Its range is estimated at 500 km on the Euro cycle.

This is Jaguar's first electric vehicle, and it used the LA Auto Show to give us a hint of things to come.

No matter the angle, the I-Pace sure is capable of striking a pose.

The rear end is like the F-Pace, but since the cab moved forward, there's a far greater slope on the rear glass.

There's some blue in the design so you know it's electric. I think.

The steering wheel should look familiar, but it brings a new technology with it -- capacitive-based touch pads.

The seats are very sporty, in that they don't look terrifically comfortable.

This angled center stack is a bit reminiscent of the Ford Fusion, which I'm sure Jaguar will love reading.

This is an actual, honest-to-goodness glove compartment. Good luck fitting anything else in there.
