'The Defenders' Netflix trailer, dissected shot by shot

Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil try to get along so they can team up to save New York City in the new Netflix series "The Defenders." Let's obsess over the new trailer, shall we? Warning: possible spoilers ahead!

The trailer begins with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) waiting in a police station to be questioned.

NYPD detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick) is clearly sick of Jessica Jones' excuses for breaking and entering -- and disrupting an ongoing citywide police investigation.

To both Jessica Jones' and Knight's amazement, lawyer Matt Murdock enters the room and offers his services.

Murdock (Charlie Cox) offers to be Jessica Jones' lawyer, but he may have other motives for making an introduction.

Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) share a tender moment in bed in the trailer.

Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) is known for his signature glowing hand that's full of mystical martial arts power.

The bulletproof Luke Cage may be indestructible, but that doesn't mean the Iron Fist can't do some damage.

When Danny Rand says, "I'm the immortal Iron Fist," he probably wasn't expecting Luke Cage's dubious reaction.

Leave it to Claire to be the voice of reason and remind Luke Cage and Danny Rand they're both fighting for a common cause.

Now fans finally know for sure whether Daredevil keeps his costume in a chest or hanging in a closet.

Jessica Jones is seen in the trailer doing what she does best -- drinking and punching.

We also see Luke Cage when he's in prison. Of course, he could break free at any time.

Iron Fist is seen glowing quite a bit in the trailer, and being fairly insulting to everyone around him.

Elektra (Elodie Yung) is freed from her tomb and resurrected by the Hand. But whose side will she be on?

With a new Marvel series there's always a new rival. Sigourney Weaver plays Alexandra and the trailer still has us wondering what her character is up to.

Stick (Scott Glenn) is back to kick the team of superheroes back in shape.

We're not sure how long it takes in the series before Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Daredevil can work together, but it looks like as a team they'll be hard to beat.

At least Iron Fist and Daredevil seem to be getting along long enough to team up and fight against an unseen opponent.

Looks like Alexandra has a fighting army of her own.

Jessica Jones isn't impressed by Daredevil's last-minute costume choice.

Elektra may have been on the fence as a hero in season 2 of "Daredevil," so she might be swayed to fight for the good guys unless the Hand have completely corrupted her.

Here we see Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist fighting off quite a few bad guys. But with Elektra showing up, all bets are off.

Jessica Jones is full of sarcasm when the heroes finally sit down to a meal together.

Danny Rand doesn't help matters when he insults Jessica Jones by calling her "whatever you are" when he can't think of a cool superhero nickname.

"The Defenders" debuts on Netflix on August 18.
