The outlook: Dodge adds a wild new variant to its Challenger coupe, claiming a number of "bests." Most importantly, zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, making it the quickest production car. Dodge will only produce 3,000 units, so expect most to end up in collections, and a few wrapped around telephone poles in their first outings.

The outlook: A stalwart of the midsize sedan segment, Honda gives the Accord a generational update for the 2018 model year, which looks every bit as promising as the 10th-generation Civic launched last year. This new Accord gets more efficient engine choices, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, new styling, and technology from the Acura brand, such as LED headlights.

The outlook: The 2018 model year Camry is virtually unrecognizable from Camrys of the past decade. More emotional styling makes Toyota's midsize sedan a head-turner, yet it reinforces practicality with a line of even more powerful and efficient engines. The Camry benefits from the first Automotive Grade Linux-based infotainment system in a car, along with standard technologies to prevent accidents.

The outlook: Subaru gives its popular Crosstrek small SUV a second generation, reengineered on the same platform as the Impreza. As before, the Crosstrek comes standard with all-wheel drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. Subaru increases the engine's power output a little, and makes its advanced Eyesight safety technology available, which not only offers automatic emergency braking but also enables the convenience of adaptive cruise control.

The outlook: Volvo scored a huge hit with its rejuvenated XC90 SUV in 2015, and now brings that same styling, engineering and technology to the smaller XC60. With elegant styling and comfort, the XC60 makes for a comfortable urban cruiser, but has the utility and chops to take into the country on the weekends.

The outlook: Land Rover has been expanding its model range of late, making for greater ownership opportunities of its excellent luxury, go-anywhere SUVs. The Range Rover Velar not only offers a model more reasonably priced and sized than the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, it also shows off a new design aesthetic and technologies for the quintessential British SUV maker.

The outlook: Audi builds a world-class technology package into its entire range of cars, from the large A8 and Q7, all the way down to its A3 model. But if the A3, with its turbocharged four cylinder engine, feels a little mundane, and even the sport-tuned S3 won't do it for you, Audi offers the RS3, a five-cylinder rocket with a smashing engine note.

The outlook: Audi tends to offer Europe its tastiest wares first, so we had to wait some time to see the TT RS in the US. But this most potent version of the TT coupe is finally here, using the same five-cylinder engine as the RS3 along with Audi's incredible handling technology. At the same time, drivers enjoy a premium leather-lined cockpit and a truly innovative infotainment system.
