The Tim3 Machin3 sees rice in your future (pictures)
This brainy rice maker is a surprisingly versatile cooker -- no flux capacitor necessary.
3Squares Tim3 Machin3
The Tim3 Machin3 is a rice maker that's currently making the rounds on Kickstarter. It can't send you back to the future, but it does promise to save you time in the kitchen. Click through for a closer look at what it does.
What's in the box
The Tim3 Machin3 comes with a BPA-free, silicone-coated rice paddle and a plastic steaming tray insert.
Cooking presets
The device features multiple presets, including white rice, brown rice, quick rice, quinoa, oatmeal and even a yogurt-making function. You can also use it as a full-fledged slow cooker or steamer.
Steamer tray
The steamer tray sits right atop the Tim3 Machin3's inner lining. You can use it to steam meat and veggies while rice cooks below.
A cooker with a brain
You won't need to set a timer with the Tim3 Machin3 -- it'll figure out how long your rice needs to cook all on its own.
Cook cycle
The Tim3 Machin3 will cycle its lights during the cook time. Once it detects the rice is nearly done, it'll begin counting down from 10 minutes. At the end of the countdown, it'll switch over into Keep Warm mode.
The results
Here's the plate of food I cooked up for my coworkers -- steamed chicken and asparagus with roasted-garlic rice. All cooked in the same pot in about 30 minutes.
Price point
After the crowdfunding campaign comes to a close, the Tim3 Machin3 will retail for $70 (about £45, or just over AU$80). For now, it's only available in the US and Canada, but 3Squares is looking into expanding internationally.
