Revealing shots from surprise new 'Force Awakens' trailer (pictures)
Star Wars fans get a gift as a new international trailer lands on Walt Disney Japan's YouTube channel. There's more of Rey and Finn, Kylo Ren's fancy lightsaber, the droid BB-8 and, hey, is that C-3PO?
Rey vs. Kylo Ren
After the third trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" dropped last month, director J.J. Abrams said we wouldn't have any new footage. A new international trailer released Friday, however, brought tons of never-before-seen footage for us to gawk at. We've collected some of our favorite scenes here. Hopefully that'll hold us until the movie hits theaters on December 17 in the UK and Australia and December 18 in the US.
In this first image, the new dark side, Kylo Ren, holds his cross-guard lightsaber up to Rey's neck as she looks appropriately terrified. Daisy Ridley plays Rey, with Adam Driver in the role of Kylo Ren.
Rey checks out the wreckage on Jakku
Rey, one of the main characters, stands amid the wreckage of a downed ship on the barren desert planet of Jakku, giving us a sense of just how massive those starships truly are.
Rey talks to BB-8
Here, Rey asks the rolling-ball droid BB-8 where it came from. She then says she knows all about waiting; she's been waiting for her family. We don't know who Rey's family is yet, but theories abound that she is the daughter of Princess Leia and Han Solo.
Rey, Finn and BB-8 on Jakku
In this scene, BB-8 hears or sees something, drawing the attention of Rey and Finn (John Boyega). Based on the footage that comes next, we presume BB-8 is alerted to the arrival of the First Order on Jakku. The First Order is the group that emerged from what was left of the Empire after the Battle of Endor.
TIE Fighters in flight
In this oddly beautiful scene, TIE Fighters fly through the sky against the background of an alien sun.
The First Order sets Jakku on fire
In a scene that feels eerily similar to what happened to Luke Skywalker's family on Tatooine in the original "Star Wars" movie, the First Order marches into a village on Jakku and they've got flamethrowers.
Finn and Rey introduce themselves
Finn and Rey, the two main characters in the film, introduce themselves aboard what appears to be the Millennium Falcon. A powerful friendship is formed.
Princess Leia in action
Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) looks to be on some kind of new Resistance (formerly Rebel) base.
Threepio!
The trailer then pans out to reveal that C-3PO is on the Resistance base with Princess Leia. Surely it isn't a "Star Wars" movie without Threepio, right? Also shown is Poe Dameron (center), played by Oscar Isaac.
More Chewie!
Roar! There's even more of Chewbacca in the latest trailer, and the Wookiee shows off his dangerous side as he presses a button and causes an explosion.
