Streaming video and TV gifts for your new grad
It's time to stop studying and turn on the TV! Your grad worked hard to get through school, and he or she deserves an entertaining new gift. Here's a few suggestions.
Google Chromecast ($35)
Your grad is always on her phone. She loves watching YouTube videos. You love a bargain. Sounds like Chromecast, which allows her to blow up those phone videos to TV size, is the perfect gift.
Roku Streaming Stick ($50)
Your grad already has your old TV in his bedroom, but he's annoyed that he can't watch all his favorite apps on there because his PlayStation 4 doesn't get WWE. The Roku Stick does, along with thousands of other apps.
Roku 3 ($100)
For the grad who deserves the best in streaming, the Roku 3 offers voice search from its remote control, as well as a headphone jack for private listening.
Apple TV ($150)
If your grad has a bunch of stuff on iTunes, or she just wants something that looks and feels a lot like her iPhone, the new Apple TV is just the ticket. In addition to numerous TV apps it also works with many of the games and other apps she might already own.
Amazon Fire TV Stick ($40)
Then again, maybe your grad is an Amazon Prime junkie, glomming off your Prime account to binge on TV free shows and movies after recovering from a long school year. Nothing wring with that, but maybe he needs a streamer of his own?
Nvidia Shield ($200)
So your grad is an avid gamer, has numerous "files" he'd like to play on the big TV, and also happens to watch his share of Netflix and YouTube. The Shield is his Rolls Royce.
TCL Roku TV ($170 and up)
As stoked as your grad would be to get a new TV with thousands of built-in streaming apps, you'll be even more stoked at the value.
Vizio M series ($450 and up)
Maybe your grad is grown up enough now to appreciate and deserve a big TV. Our current favorite for the money is the excellent M series, a 4K model with a great picture and a wide range of sizes to choose from, starting at 43 inches.
