Starbucks' iPhone app rewards you for your coffee habit (pictures)

The Starbucks app helps you quickly pay for your food and drinks at the popular cafe chain and earn perks while you shop.

The main screen of the iPhone app has a dashboard of your account activity, recent Starbucks news, and your reward status.

From anywhere in the app, you can shake your phone to pay. The app will use your default card (if you have more than one gift card on your account) and immediately displays a barcode. You then show it to your Starbucks cashier, and they'll scan it to complete your purchase.

The Starbucks app works like a digital gift card, and you'll need to reload it when your balance gets too low in order to keep using the app and earn rewards. You can save a default payment method and add between $10 and $100 at a time in $5 increments.

If you get a Starbucks card as a gift, you can add it to the app to track its balance and use it to pay.

One of the biggest features in the app is the rewards system, which gives you discounts and free stuff for using the app every time you head to Starbucks. In the app, you can see how many stars you earn, which affects which perks you get.
