'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' trailer: What you may not have noticed

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ended with Rey finally finding Luke Skywalker and returning his legendary family lightsaber. "The Last Jedi" explains what happens next. Here's a closer look at the trailer that dropped during "Monday Night Football" on Oct. 9.  "The Last Jedi" opens Dec. 15.

Remember how the Resistance rejoiced at the destruction of Starkiller Base in "The Force Awakens"? From what we see here, the First Order is back on its feet, with Kylo Ren overseeing some kind of factory floor hard at work producing more weapons -- and a new kind of Imperial walker.

While walkers date back to the original trilogy, this scene may offer our first glance at a new First Order vehicle: The All-Terrain Mega-Caliber Six, or the AT-M6 walker. Not only is it bigger than an AT-AT, it has a less lumbering, more simian-like gait, which helps stabilize the cannon.

Luke takes his lightsaber from Rey with the robotic hand he received after losing his real hand in a battle with Darth Vader at Cloud City on Bespin. The creepy metallic extremity was revealed by Empire magazine last month, but this may be the first time many fans get to see it. His replacement hand in "The Empire Strikes Back" had fake skin over it, but now he seems to have gone commando.

Luke better keep his lightsaber handy, because here we see Kylo Ren picking up his own personal weapon, the one he used to kill a certain favorite character in "The Force Awakens." Lightsaber blade color is determined by its kyber crystal, with red being a favorite of evildoers.

Luke Skywalker's been living as a hermit on Ahch-To, after a horrible event we are about to learn all about. That's his metallic hand sticking up from a pile of rubble that once was a building. That seems likely to be the school where he was training a new generation of Jedi -- until Kylo Ren turned against him, and likely caused all this destruction.

Luke and R2-D2 appear to be the only survivors of Kylo's attack on the Jedi students. In the trailer, this scene comes as Luke says, presumably of Rey's powers: "I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then. It does now." We're guessing he sees in Rey the strength he saw in Kylo Ren. It's not a good sign that he's associating the two.

Remember the role this mask played in "The Force Awakens"? Kylo Ren's father, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), asked his son to remove it so he could see his face again. But it was no tender moment. Han did get to touch his son's bare face one more time though before -- well, you know.

Kylo Ren's Rey-given scar has been moved slightly from "Force Awakens" to "Last Jedi." Fans went nuts when the movement was first revealed in the April trailer, but "Jedi" director Rian Johnson said he did it because the old one "honestly looked goofy running straight up the bridge of (Ren's) nose." What's with that metal-looking scar/bandage/implant though? We're having Darth Vader flashbacks.

Let's break this down: So it appears that Kylo Ren is wavering about whether to fire on his own mother, General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher). But Fisher had already filmed "Last Jedi" before her untimely death late in 2016, and from all we've heard, was expected to return for Episode IX. So she must survive this film, right? That's still no explanation as to how the character's absence will be handled in Episode IX, but we likely won't see her expire at the hands of her own child.

This little porg lends his roar to Chewbacca's while on the Millennium Falcon. Porgs were reportedly inspired by the puffins that live on Ireland's Skellig Michael, where scenes from "Last Jedi" were filmed.

Fans went a bit nuts on social media after a brief trailer scene showed Finn (John Boyega) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) battling. This should come as no surprise to anyone who read coverage of this summer's Disney fan event. Boyega said that Finn would "have a fight with a formidable opponent" and looked right at Christie.

Just sharing this image because Captain Phasma, the First Order's stormtrooper commander, has the coolest, chrome-iest mask in the galaxy. Fun fact: "Force Awakens" director and screenwriter J.J. Abrams named her after the 1979 horror film "Phantasm."

Is this ... a loth-wolf? The snow-colored creature was only seen briefly, but fans know the creature (a predator native to the planet Lothal) from the animated series "Star Wars Rebels." Could just be some kind of wintry fox-thing on the white-surfaced, red-dust-blowing planet Crait, but whatever it is, we're sure there'll be stuffed animals of it soon.

Update: No loth-wolf, apparently. Director Rian Johnson called it neither feline nor canine but "crystalline" in a tweet. It appears to be called a "crystalline fox."

Gaaaah! Supreme Leader Snoke, who trained Kylo Ren in his evilness, is terrifyingly ugly. But actor and motion-capture guru Andy Serkis is used to playing the characters you can't bear to look upon -- he played Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Here he appears to be torturing poor Rey.

Not sure what's happening to Rey here, presumably at Snoke's command, but it's a bit reminiscent of "The Exorcist."

As the trailer ends, Rey says, "I need someone to show me my place in all of this," and terrifyingly, Kylo Ren reaches out his black-gloved hand to her. This may have thrilled all the "Reylo shippers" out there who imagine a romance for the two, but Rey can't turn to the Dark Side, right? We'll find out in December.
