'Star Trek Beyond' red carpet premiere brings stars to San Diego (pictures)

Fans lucky enough to attend the Wednesday night premiere of "Star Trek Beyond" at Comic-Con 2016 lined up for hours outside of the venue at Embarcadero Marina Park in San Diego.

The stars walked across this red carpet Wednesday evening.

The end of the carpet had a specially shaped gateway before leading along a path to the outdoor theatre.

Drive-in theaters are rare now, but that did not stop "Star Trek Beyond" from setting up its premiere on a large, outdoor IMAX screen.

Greg Grunberg was hosting segments for his Geeking Out television show on the red carpet.

Grunberg grabbed an interview with Zachary Quinto (Spock) before the outdoor premiere.

Adam Savage from the recently concluded "Mythbusters" television series visited the premiere.

The premiere took place outdoors, with a view of the real stars once the sun set.

Actor Deep Roy, who plays Keenser in the Star Trek films, walked along the red carpet. He is previously known for his role in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

The director of the film, Justin Lin, speaks with the press on the red carpet.

Once the sun set, it was time for the premiere to begin! This included a dazzling display of fireworks before the film played to fans for the first time.
