Spying on the Virgin Megastore liquidation sale

The Virgin Megastore is following Circuit City into the abyss, as the chain's U.S. retail stores are in the process of closing down. Similar to Circuit City's infamous liquidation sales, Virgin is currently offering its wares at "up to 30 percent off," according to the copious signage spotting outside the Union Square location in New York.

Just like Circuit City, no refunds. In fact, don't these closeout signs look familiar?

For current games, which are rarely discounted, even 10 percent off is a good deal.

So far, we only found one category that was 30 percent off.

Yes, Virgin always had a small vinyl section, now offered at 20 percent off. But the store's original prices for vinyl were inflated to start with.

Another good deal: get a few bucks off an Apple TV unit, which, like most Apple products, is rarely discounted.

Virgin was always known for overpriced DVDs and Blu-ray discs, so 20 percent off isn't much of an incentive.

We finally found something that was 30 percent off: video game hint books.

Even the fixtures are for sale. Although we're not sure what the mysterious "circumstances" that require the 10 percent premium referenced here are.
