Sony's 2019 8K, 4K and OLED TVs go against Samsung and LG
At an event in New York, Sony rolled out the side-by-side comparisons.
At an event in New York Sony showed off a few of its newest TVs. This is the 85-inch, 8K resolution XBR-85Z9G, which will sell for $13,000 when it arrives in June.
Those industrial-looking legs are certainly unusual.
Sony mounted front-facing speakers around the edge of the screen to create more of an effect of the sound coming from the picture itself.
Sony demo'd the Z9G next to Samsung's 85-inch TV (left), the $15,000 Q900R. The small TV below, turned off in this image, is Sony's 30-inch BVM-X300 professional 4K OLED reference monitor.
The redesigned remote has a sleek metal finish on the higher-end models.
Sony also showed off its 4K TVs. This is the XBR-65X950G, successor to the X900F from 2018.
The X950G has an unusual speaker arrangement. A pair of side-firing tweeters, seen here, are mounted relatively high, which Sony says increases the perception that the sound is coming from the screen, rather than from below it.
Lower-end models like the X950G get a black plastic remote instead of silver.
On the left is Samsung's Q80R, another side-by-side comparison against Sony's X950G on the right. Below is another reference monitor.
The last TV Sony demo'd at its New York event was the XBR-65A9G Master Series 65-inch OLED.
The final comparison pitted the XBR-65A9G (right) against the LG OLED65E9.
