Sideways slide
A variation on its ancestor, the Cyber-shot DSC-G1, the G3 powers on when you slide the entire front piece to the right, revealing the lens and flash.
Top controls
The minimalist controls on the G3 include a relatively large--if fingerprint prone--shutter button and a tiny playback button. When connected to a network, WLAN lights up.
Zoom
When in the open position, the G3 reveals a zoom switch, which is fairly flat but delivers good feedback, and a textured area to rest your thumb. Such a large grip area is a nice luxury on a compact camera.
Tiny buttons
Yes, the camera is thin, but the power and WLAN buttons seem excessively small. Pressing WLAN connects you to the currently selected network.
