Songza sets itself apart from Pandora (pictures)

Songza may be a streaming-radio service, but it's different from Pandora. We take a look at this unique app that offers playlists for your daily activities.

Jaymar Cabebe
Jaymar Cabebe covers mobile apps and Windows software for CNET. While he may be a former host of the Android Atlas Weekly podcast, he doesn't hate iOS or Mac. Jaymar has worked in online media since 2007.

Happy Friday

Based on the current time and day, Songza's Concierge takes a guess at what activity you might be engaged in. Of course, if none of these fits, you can easily bypass them with the drop-down up top.

So you're going for a walk, eh...

I told Songza I was going for an Epic Walk and the app prodded me for just a bit more info before it could provide me with the perfect playlist recommendations.

Et voila

Based on the info I provided, Songza thought I might enjoy walking to the bass-filled beats of East Coast rappers from the mid-'90s. Songza was right.

Beyond the Concierge

Songza also lets you sift through playlists based on their popularity.

Vote it up

Give a track a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, and Songza will use that to recalibrate its recommendations. Here, I'm letting the app know how much I love the '90s R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe.

Songza limits you to six skips per station per hour.
