Smarter wine snobbery with this touchscreen bottle (pictures)
The Kuvée Bottle slows the oxidation of wine by blocking air while pouring
The Kuvée Bottle is a smart wine bottle that connects with Wi-Fi to tell you about the wine you're drinking and actively blocks air from contacting the wine as it's poured to prevent oxidation.
The wine cartridges that slip inside the Kuvée Bottle are 750mL, and contain a collapsible bladder that deflates as wine is displaced. The bladder, plus a dual-valve system in the neck of each cartridge, is the mechanism that slows oxidation.
Once you slip a cartridge into the Bottle, the label will show up on the screen, so you know what you're serving.
A small chip on each cartridge tells the Bottle about the wine you are drinking.
On the touchscreen, you can read about the winery your wine is from, the tasting notes to look for, and even suggested food pairings.
The Kuvée Bottle includes a basic aerator, which can be unscrewed from the top of the bottle and washed to prevent mixing wines.
The first valve of each cartridge is opened when it is plugged into the Bottle. The second is opened when the Bottle is tilted to pour.
On the Kuvée Bottle, you can search and read about other available wines, all curated by Kuvée.
You can also order any of those cartridges for market price on the Bottle itself. Shipping is free for four bottles or more.
The Kuvée Bottle is available for preorder on Indiegogo now. For $199, you can receive the device and four cartridges of selected wine.
