Smart Baby Monitor allows you to make sure your baby is safe via an iPhone

Keeping your baby safe is a fairly important part of being a parent, so we're super-excited about the new Withings Smart Baby Monitor, which beams video of junior to your iOS device.

Baby monitors are essential if you've got a miniature human to keep safe while you potter about with a glazed expression, wondering why you can't remember anything any more. Withings new Smart Baby Monitor takes baby surveillance to a new level.

First of all, it has a full video capability, so not only can you hear when junior is getting his or her grump on, you can see that adorable pout forming too. But rather than provide a base station for the baby's room, and a handset for Mum and Dad, this monitor sends video to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

If the system detects noise, it can alert you with push notifications and there's even the option to track your baby's sleep patterns to make sure junior is well-rested.

Unlike most baby monitors, the Withings Smart Baby Monitor also allows you to keep an eye on what's happening when you're away from home, via 3G: handy if you've got a babysitter in and you want to make sure cries aren't going unanswered.

As this device makes use of your iPod, you can even send your choice of music to soothe baby off to sleep. Just try and remember that Swedish hardcore punk is unlikely to help your progeny off to sleep.

There's an on-board camera, as well as a night light, to help your anxious sprog get to sleep. As you would expect, these are all accessed and enabled from the iPhone/iPod interface.

It's an interesting design. The folding enables the device to be easily taken on holiday and it also enables you to angle the camera.

Power and network sockets are located on the back of the device.

And video can be beamed to your phone, iPad or iPod anywhere in the world over Wi-Fi or 3G. Leaving your baby at home while you go on holiday is still not recommended.
