Samsung Galaxy Ace
Samsung brought a series of small Android smartphones to its massive booth at Mobile World Congress. Sammy announced the Galaxy Ace, Gio, Fit, and Mini last month, but this is the first chance we've had to handle them. All devices have touch screens of 3.5 inches or smaller.
The Galaxy Ace is the largest of the quartet. It has a 3.5-inch display and offers an 800Mhz processor, Wi-Fi, and Swype for its virtual keyboard. And with its rectangular shape and chrome edge, it even looks a bit like the iPhone.
Samsung Galaxy Gio
The Galaxy Gio has curvier ends and a 3.2-inch display. Under the hood you'll find Wi-Fi, a Web browser, messaging and e-mail, and GPS.
Samsung Galaxy Fit
The Galaxy Fit has rounded ends and more chrome on its front face. The display is 3.31 inches and the feature set includes a 5-megapixel camera and Samsung's Social Hub feature.
Samsung Galaxy Mini
We saw the Galaxy Mini earlier in the week at the T-Mobile booth. It has the smallest display at just 3.1 inches. Goodies include a a 3-megapixel camera, a 600MHz processor, 150MB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and Wi-Fi.
Of course, everything is smaller on a small display. Here's the phone dialer interface on the Galaxy Fit.
The main menu interface on each handset has an icon-based design, though it's fair to say a bit of scrolling will be necessary to see them all.
Fortunately, you can choose to see all home screens at once. That's a handy feature for a small display.
The music player interface, like this on the Galaxy Ace, is pretty minimal.
The Galaxy Mini comes in a few colors. This display model had a lime border.
All handsets feature 3.5mm headset jacks.
