The Samsung Monte is a rare beast -- a mobile phone that looks better in person than in its carefully posed press photos. We got our hands on the budget touchscreen at Mobile World Congress and were pleasantly surprised by its slim case and bright, sharp 76mm (3-inch) screen.
We think Samsung often does a better job with its less expensive phones than with its big stars -- the Samsung Tocco Lite was one of our favourite budget phones last year. So the Samsung Monte may be one to watch out for -- it doesn't skimp on features, with Wi-Fi and GPS on board.

The Monte's user interface is TouchWiz, familiar from phones such as the Tocco Lite and the Corby. It can be fiddly, but it looks great on the Monte's vivid screen.
There's a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back -- security device not included -- and you can upload your shots to Facebook and other social networks thanks to built-in widgets.
