Realising that Wi-Fi connectivity is to technology as bacon is to food -- it makes everything better -- Samsung's launched two camcorders with a distaste for cables

Wi-Fi connectivity is to technology as bacon is to food -- almost everything's better with it. Fully aware of this, Samsung has announced the 1080i HMX-S16 and HMX-S15 wireless camcorders, which let you quickly upload your footage to the Web, and stream to a DLNA-certified PC or hi-def TV, without faffing around with cables.

With a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor, HDMI port, 15x optical zoom and 89mm (3.5-inch) touchscreen display, the two models shoot H.264-compressed MPEG-4 files and differ only in the amount of storage they offer. The HMX-S16 has 64GB of internal flash memory, while the HMX-S15 offers 32GB. Both models also have an SD/SDHC card slot, so you can boost the storage capacity by 32GB.

Colour us moderately excited, Crave fans. The wireless tech in Samsung's ST1000 compact camera impressed us mightily, so we hope we're in for more of the same with these camcorders.

But, wait -- that's not all! Samsung also announced the HMX-S10, which is the same as the other models except it lacks the wireless support and has no internal memory. These camcorders are set to launch in May or June, for a currently undisclosed price.

Aimed at folk who appreciate the simpler things in life, the SMX-C20 records 720x480-pixel standard-definition video to an SD/SDHC card, and looks like a beetle. It also has a 69mm (2.7-inch) twisty screen, a 10x optical zoom and an upload button that takes you straight to YouTube when the camcorder's connected to a PC. Look out for this little fellow in February. The price is yet to be divulged.

The HMX-M20 is similar to the SMX-C20, but records 1080p footage and has an 8x optical zoom. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but it should be available in March.
