Check out CNET's hands-on photos of the Samsung Glint for Alltel.

Samsung Glint SGH-u350

The Samsung Glint is a very basic cell phone offered by Alltel. It's available now for free with a one-year contract and after a $30 mail-in rebate. Alternatively, you can buy it without a contract for $139.99.

No bells and whistles

Other than Bluetooth, the Samsung Glint doesn't come with many bells and whistles. There's a VGA camera but mostly, it's a handset simply for making calls.

Pocket friendly

The clamshell handset measures 3.78 inches tall by 1.87 inches wide by 0.76 inch deep and weighs 3.35 ounces, so you'll have no problem slipping this compact phone into a pants pocket.

Simple but functional

Being a basic phone, the Samsung Glint doesn't offer a flashy design but its midnight-blue-and-black color scheme is attractive enough. The flip mechanism also feels solid.

Right side

On the right side, you'll find the phone's 2.5mm headset jack, a camera activation/capture button, a dedicated speakerphone key, and Samsung's proprietary power connector.

Internal display

The Samsung Glint features a 1.9-inch TFT screen that shows 65,000 colors at a 128x160-pixel resolution. Graphics and colors didn't look all that sharp, but the display was clear enough for dialing numbers and reading text messages.

Spacious keypad

We found the Glint's navigation controls and alphanumeric keypad to be roomy and easy to use.

VGA camera

Above the Glint's external display, you'll find the VGA camera. Even though the phone is free, we would have at least liked to see a 1.3-megapixel camera.

Poor picture quality

Not surprisingly, the picture quality wasn't the greatest. Images looked blurry, and colors were washed out.
