It's certainly slim, at 13.6mm thick. Impressively, this machine only weighs 1.39kg, making it very portable.

Samsung's confident that you'll squeeze 12 hours of battery out of the Book 9 Plus, but we'll put that to the test in our intensive battery trials.

Here's a view from the front. As with Apple's MacBook, there's an indentation in the chassis to help you pry the laptop open.

A whopping 3,200x1,800-pixel resolution means on-screen action is impeccably sharp, rendering icons on the Windows 8 Start screen as crystal-clear tiny blocks. We look forward to testing this display more in the full review.

There's a Haswell Core Series processor inside, which should deliver enough punch. We'll be interested to see whether these new chips make the Book 9 Plus capable of intensive tasks like video editing.

The screen locks into place, making the touch screen easier to prod without shifting the display. When it's unlocked, you can bend the screen all the way back, level with the keyboard. We don't know why you'd want to, though.

Inside there's a sold-state drive. With all that high-end hardware, expect this laptop to be very pricey indeed.
