Retro run-and-gun fun with Contra: Evolution (pictures)
Contra: Evolution brings old-school, side-scrolling platform action to your mobile device.
Play Contra on your mobile device
With its updated graphics and touch-based gameplay, Contra: Evolution should have fans of the original console version of the game excited.
Classic stages
All of the stages from the classic NES game have been recreated for mobile devices. Here's one of the 3D levels, which should look familiar to fans of the original.
Hit the ground running
Contra: Evolution is pretty light on explanations. And unfortunately, those that it does provide are not very helpful. With that in mind, the best way to get started is to jump right into the game.
New characters
One thing that's new to the mobile version of the game is the ability to pick your character. To start, you get two choices, but as you make your way through the game, you'll be able to unlock another two.
Ricci
One of the unlockable characters, Ricci, wields two pistols and a unique arsenal of attacks.
New game mode
Mission Mode lets you play individual levels for practice.
Power-ups
The system of extra "bullets" and other special items can be confusing, since the game doesn't effectively explain how it works.
