Project Hero puts drones to work in Red Cross disaster response

Here's a feel-good story for you.

This is Project Hero, built by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations division.

It's built for the Austrian Red Cross, not only for training, but for actual disaster response, too.

Its roof-mounted pod features magnetic retention, so its drone can land on the vehicle safely while the vehicle itself is moving.

There's a pull-out rear platform, loads of radio equipment and power plugs featuring a variety of styles for various European plugs.

The Austrian Red Cross will use this system to develop improved methods of disaster response.

The drone can be controlled with a tablet app.

Additional LED lighting will help visibility in pitch black conditions.

Project Hero is based on a regular Land Rover Discovery.

A little help goes a long way, and the Red Cross is determined to do all it can to help those affected by natural disasters.
