Pinball heaven: spelunking in the Man Cave

"With the barrage of Sex in the City-type movies, MasterChef and Manscaping Makeovers being promoted in the media these days, men are forgetting how to be men and are suppressing their natural urge to hang out with the boys, drink beer, play pinball and watch sport."

This was our introduction to Howard Symington, owner of the Pinballs 'R' Us Man Cave in Sydney's Chatswood, and it got us thinking: have we really lost touch with our inner beasts?

With glimpses of Tyler Durden in our peripheral vision, we quickly made our way to the Man Cave to rediscover our masculinity hidden beneath layers of manicures and soy lattes.

Essentially, Pinballs 'R' Us is a sales showroom for machines you can buy outright, but Symington and the team also host parties on site. From buck's nights to corporate events, you can hire the area, complete with the bar and free use of all the machines on display.

Is that supposed to be a rock painted around the door or a tree? It kinda looks like a Farrah Fawcett wig — not to "de-manify" the situation, or anything.

Spider-Man? NASCAR? Pinball? Oh my!

For those who prefer their skill-based games without flashing lights and blaring sound effects.

In case the Playboy pinball wasn't nostalgic enough.

This TV is guaranteed never to play an episode of Desperate Housewives.

This sign better not be lying.

The Man Cave isn't licensed like a pub, but they will serve beers for the parties they host.

There's no "getting in touch" with your masculinity without shooting a few innocent beasts on safari.

You can rest those tired pinball hands on the steering wheel while you speed around the track.

Never fear music lovers, there are also copies of this fine music that aren't being preserved behind glass.

Pretty safari girls and oversized tusks? Anyone?

How awesome is the design in this machine?

Stand aside, pinball wizard coming through.

That's what we love about pinball machines; even the lamest TV shows can be turned into great machines.

One of our favourites of the newer machines was this superhero cinema tie-in.

As you play the Iron Man machine this little fellow rises up out of the table, signalling you're one step closer to the multi-ball.
