Samsung BD-P4600

Here's our weekly roundup of the new products CNET reviewers liked best.

Samsung BD-P4600

Editors' rating: 4

The good: Unique design; can be wall-mounted; excellent image quality on Blu-ray movies; Wi-Fi USB dongle included; Netflix and Pandora streaming; superfast operational speed and disc loading; Profile 2.0 compatible; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; 1GB onboard memory; streams media off connected PC.

The bad: Costs more than a PS3; unusual design won't fit all decors; compartment for connectivity is cramped; PC streaming setup is difficult.

The bottom line: Samsung's BD-P4600 Blu-ray player is packed with features and its unique design makes it wall-mountable, but most buyers will be better off with the step-down BD-P3600.

Ceivalife digital photo frame

Ceivalife digital photo frame

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Three Internet connection options; can be managed completely by remote; good customer service.

The bad: Most features require a subscription fee after 1 year; may be feature overkill for some users; expensive.

The bottom line: The Ceivalife digital photo frame and its complementary service push past simple picture viewing into the realm of Internet appliances--for better or worse.

HP 8-inch Digital Picture Frame (DF820)

HP 8-inch Digital Picture Frame (DF820)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Attractive with interchangeable mattes; a lot of value for the money; nice feature set for nontecchies.

The bad: Have to connect to a computer to batch-copy photos to memory.

The bottom line: A good budget frame for those who like the traditional look, the HP DF820 series offers more capabilities than competitors, without too much complexity.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185

Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 4185

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Movie-friendly 16:9 screen, thin and light, sturdy and stylish design, good speakers.

The bad: Too much dead space in the keyboard tray; multitouch touch pad isn't well supported.

The bottom line: Online media consumers who want a portable laptop with high style and plenty of screen real estate should give the Y650 a look.

Shure SE115 earphones (pink)

Shure SE115 earphones (pink)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Shure SE115 earphones offer a comfortable fit; full, beefy bass; multiple eartips; and a useful carrying case.

The bad: The SE115 earphones' sound isn't as detailed as we would have liked.

The bottom line: While they fall short on clarity and detail, the Shure SE115 earphones deliver impressive bass, making them a solid option for people who listen to a lot of hip-hop and reggae.

Sony KDL-46XBR9

Sony KDL-46XBR9

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Reproduces a relatively deep shade of black; generally accurate color; good dejudder processing in Standard mode; extensive feature set with Yahoo Widgets and built-in streaming video options including Amazon Video on Demand; attractive styling with thin bezel; plenty of connectivity with four HDMI, two component-video, and one PC input.

The bad: Expensive; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; dejudder modes can produce artifacts; some screen uniformity and off-angle issues; dark areas tinged bluer; most free streaming-video options not compelling.

The bottom line: Sony's high-end KDL-XBR9 series of LCD TV offers a bundle of extras and solid picture quality, but the price will turn off most buyers.

Sony Vaio JS250J

Sony Vaio JS250J

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Blu-ray drive a rarity at this price; best selection of features-per-dollar among Windows-based all-in-ones.

The bad: Not as fast as an iMac; puny mouse.

The bottom line: Instead of succumbing to the latest fads, Sony's Vaio's JS250J all-in-one PC stays the course pioneered by its models from last year, delivering capable performance and best-of-breed home entertainment features at a better price than its all-in-one competition. The Vaio JS250J will appeal to anyone in need of a multipurpose home PC.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX

T-Mobile Sidekick LX

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 features a beautiful, high-resolution display and has a thinner design. The handheld also offers 3G, GPS, Flash video support, and Twitter and Facebook integration.

The bad: The GPS integration is a bit clunky, since you can't find your location within Microsoft Live Search. T-Mobile's 3G network isn't as widely available as other carriers, and there's no integrated Wi-Fi. The camera's picture quality wasn't the best, and video playback was poor.

The bottom line: With the design improvements and addition of features such as 3G and GPS, the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 graduates from a simple messaging handheld to a real connected, all-in-one communication device for the younger crowd.

Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The second-generation of the DJ-friendly Pacemaker MP3 player offers a more affordable price than the original model, and new features, such as automatic tempo matching, expanded effects, audio time-stretching, and a master EQ.

The bad: The slashed price of the Pacemaker comes at the cost of a smaller hard drive, and the complaints we had about the previous model's complicated interface design haven't changed.

The bottom line: The Pacemaker is a fun tool for DJs on the go. It's not our first choice for playing a DJ gig, but it gets the job done, and the price is a fair reflection of its features and portable design.

Verizon Wireless CDM8950

Verizon Wireless CDM8950

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Verizon Wireless CDM8950 has external music player keys, EV-DO, stereo Bluetooth, and GPS. It's free with a contract.

The bad: The phone has a boring design and the navigation array is cramped. The music player interface is clunky as well.

The bottom line: Though it doesn't look like much, the Verizon Wireless CDM8950's multimedia features and free price tag provide unbeatable bang for the buck.

Verizon Wireless USB760 modem

Verizon Wireless USB760 modem

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Verizon Wireless USB760 modem offers EV-DO Rev. A data speeds through Verizon's network. It also works with Mac and Linux systems and offers up to 8GB of storage.

The bad: No built-in GPS.

The bottom line: The Verizon Wireless USB760 modem offers great connection speeds and coverage, and it doubles as a storage device. However, its rigid, nonswivel design makes it difficult to use in tight situations.
