Polk Audio SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater

Here's our weekly roundup of the new products CNET reviewers liked best.

Polk Audio SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Single-speaker home theater system; includes built-in DVD player; inputs for additional external AV components; easy setup; superior sound quality; strong-enough bass that most listeners won't need a subwoofer.

The bad: Limited number of AV inputs; built-in Blu-ray player or HDMI inputs would've been an ideal upgrade.

The bottom line: The Polk Audio SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater delivers excellent sound from a single speaker bar, with the lack of built-in Blu-ray being the real sticking point.

Cowon D2+ (16GB, black)

Cowon D2+ (16GB, black)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Cowon D2+ touch-screen MP3 player offers rich sound, long battery life, and seamlessly integrated memory expansion.

The bad: There's no AAC support on the D2+, most videos require conversion, line input and video output features require extra cables, and menu scrolling can be tedious.

The bottom line: The Cowon D2+ is a sturdy little touch-screen MP3 player with flexible sound enhancement settings and useful features, but it hasn't changed much from the original version we saw in 2007.

Panasonic TC-P50S1

Panasonic TC-P50S1

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Reproduces deep black levels and excellent shadow detail; solid color saturation; uses less power than previous 1080p plasmas; adequate connectivity with three HDMI and two component-video inputs.

The bad: Less accurate primary colors and color temperature; skimpy picture controls; still less efficient than comparable LCDs.

The bottom line: With deep black levels and generally excellent picture quality, the more eco-friendly Panasonic TC-PS1 series of plasma TVs strikes an appealing price/performance balance.

Asus G50VT-X5

Asus G50VT-X5

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Excellent CPU and GPU for the price; secondary instant-on Linux OS; separate number pad.

The bad: Big and heavy; no Bluetooth; lights can't be completely shut off; no dedicated media controls.

The bottom line: The Asus G50VT-X5 offers great gaming performance for under $1,000, but it's missing some basic amenities we've come to expect, and the lightning-bolt design may not appeal to all.

LG CF360 - blue (AT&T)

LG CF360 - blue (AT&T)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The LG CF360 is a slim and lightweight slider phone. Features include 3G, quad-band support, GPS, a music player, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. Call quality is good.

The bad: Photo quality is mediocre, there's no self-portrait mirror or flash, and some of the keys feel flat.

The bottom line: The LG CF360 is a simple midtier phone for an affordable price.

JVC Everio GZ-HD40

JVC Everio GZ-HD40

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Excellent video quality; two HD format options; full manual controls.

The bad: No optical image stabilization; confusing menu system; some design quirks.

The bottom line: JVC's CMOS-based Everio GZ-HD40 offers high-definition recording flexibility with very good results, but a few shortcomings keep us from giving it a full recommendation.

Apple iMac (20-inch, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Winter 2009)

Apple iMac (20-inch, 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Winter 2009)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Best-in-class design; competitive performance in its price range, especially for multitasking; capable mainstream gaming performance.

The bad: Windows all-in-one vendors offer 20-inch or larger all-in-ones for less; not as well-suited as a dedicated digital entertainment system as some other all-in-ones.

The bottom line: A few other all-in-ones make this 20-inch iMac look expensive on a dollars-per-screen-inch basis, but none are as attractive or as capable juggling multiple programs. With a fast dual-core CPU and a strong array of features, Apple's updated all-in-one will slide seamlessly into a variety of roles at home or at work.

HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx

HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Attractive design skips the usual gray and black; long battery life; touch-sensitive multimedia controls.

The bad: Huge battery adds to weight and size.

The bottom line: HP's attractive multimedia-friendly Pavilion dv5-1235dx has a great battery life, but at the cost of having one of the biggest, ugliest battery packs we've seen.

Palm Treo Pro (Sprint)

Palm Treo Pro (Sprint)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Palm Treo Pro features a sleek design that combines a full QWERTY keyboard and touch screen. The smartphone ships with Internet Explorer 6 and offers full connectivity options, including EV-DO Rev. A support and GPS.

The bad: The Treo Pro's QWERTY keyboard is cramped, and we wish the screen was slightly bigger. The smartphone can occasionally be sluggish. Though IE Mobile 6 brings some improvements, it's still cumbersome compared with some other mobile browsers.

The bottom line: The Palm Treo Pro for Sprint offers plenty of features and satisfactory performance, but the carrier's business customers will get a better user experience from the HTC Touch Pro.
