Photos: Sirius Stiletto 100

The Stiletto 100 is Sirius' first truly portable receiver. It packs tons of features, including: pause, replay, or recording of live Sirius content; MP3 and WMA playback; and built-in WiFi for streaming Sirius internet radio. While the device is bulky, its well-designed interface is a joy to use.

The captivating Sirius Stiletto 100 is fun, easy to use, and packed with handy radio and digital audio features. Yet some consumers may find the Stiletto too bulky, and battery life isn't stellar.

The device's satellite radio offers 130 channels, while its WiFi radio comes with over 70 channels. The WiFi radio's sound quality is definitely lower; however, you can spring for near-CD quality, 128kbps streams for an extra $3 per month.

The Stiletto 100 is thick and feels somewhat like a scientific instrument. However, it's sturdy, and the circular, tactile Media Dial is fun to use.

The device's top is curiously curved, but the design is nothing exceptional.

The Sirius Stiletto 100 with its many accessories. For $350, however, we'd like to see a car kit thrown in as well.

Side features include dedicated volume buttons and a power/hold switch.

You don't have to use the bundled antenna headphones, but they do improve signal strength, especially indoors. Yet they're painful to wear.

The Stiletto conveniently ships with two batteries, one physically larger (and with more capacity) than the other. Rated battery life is weak for live Sirius radio, but it's decent for MP3 and recorded material playback.

The Stiletto 100 is unusual. Measuring 4.5x2x0.7 inches and weighing 4.6 ounces, it's no sleek, stiletto heel-inspired player. In fact, it's more like a clog.

Though it's far from perfect, the Stiletto 100 is a good effort and sets the bar high for future versions. The pricey device could be slimmer, ship with better headphones, have a better battery life, and include more memory--all details that might one day make the iPod an afterthought. But for now, the Stiletto 100 shines through its excellent interface that makes rocking out easy.
