Photos: Nikon R1C1 sample images

Using just one of the R1C1's SB-R200 flashes, CNET Associate Testing Analyst Matthew Fitzgerald was able to capture this image of a pair of earrings designed and made by Devon DeFrancesca.

Adding a second SB-R200 to the mix, Fitzgerald was able to carefully control the lighting enough to allow for a limited depth of field while keeping the background well lit on this portrait of a pendant created by Devon DeFrancesca.

The pair of SB-R200 Speedlights included in the R1C1 kit pumped out enough light to let Fitzgerald maintain enough depth of field to show the detail of both the piece of wood and the choker made by Devon DeFrancesca wrapped around it.

Anyone who has tried to shoot jewelry will tell you that it's not easy to get a stone to light up without blowing out the details in the setting or other parts of the photo. Nikon's R1C1 kit lent just enough finesse so that Fitzgerald could create a perfect glow in this tiger's eye pendant created by Devon DeFrancesca.

Macro shots are almost always a tight squeeze, but the R1C1 kit makes setup much easier. Without wires to get in the way, the kit's tiny SB-R200 Speedlights can tuck into some really tight spots to create unique lighting opportunities. Here, Fitzgerald used the kit's SW-11 adapters to direct the light and bounced it off of two large pieces of white cardboard to further sculpt the scene's lighting.
