There is a mini USB port on the bottom of the unit, so you can synchronize your device with your PC. You can also use it as a tethered modem for your laptop.

The candy-bar-style handset measures a compact 4.6x2.8x0.7 inches and weighs 5.8 ounces; it has a solid construction and feels comfortable to hold up to the ear.

Of course, there is a trade off for the phone's small size as we found the navigation controls and numeric keypad to be a bit cramped.

Texting will take some finesse and strong fingers as the number keys were particularly tiny and stiff.

The iPaq 510 Voice Messenger has 128MB flash ROM and 64MB SDRAM with about 65MB available for storage and 44MB for program memory. For large files, like music and videos, take advantage of the microSD card slot.

One of the complaints about Windows Mobile devices is that it takes too many steps to accomplish one task. HP has somewhat remedied that situation by adding a shortcuts page for frequently used applications and functions.

The HP iPaq 510 has outstanding voice-command capabilities. You can call contacts, reply to e-mails, play music, and more, all with just the sound of your voice. We tried it out, and it worked great--no training required.

The HP iPaq 510 comes equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera and a self-portrait mirror. The camera took OK pictures, though they had a grainy quality to them.
