Photos: Cars gone wild at CES 2008

CES dedicated a hall to in-vehicle technology presenters, and many of them brought the wildest cars you've ever seen. These cars sprout LCDs, amps, and speakers on any and every available surface. We took a walk around to find the most outlandish, outrageous cars on display.

This old Impala features a big V-8 engine bored out to 509 cubic inches and fitted with dual turbos. The audio system is comprised of six Foose 12-inch speakers, three tweeters on each side, and six amps putting out 7,000 watts.

With an airbag suspension, this Mercury can ride at various heights. But the most striking features, besides the paint job, are the flame and smoke-screen kits attached to the exhaust.

Morgan Williamson built this Escalade show car using a Kicker sound system and Accele LCDs. It has 21 Kicker speakers all told, along with 16 Accele LCDs.

B52 managed to install 38 speakers and 11 subwoofers in this van. The interior walls are mounted with 22 amps putting out 28,000 watts, while 23 LCDs provide visual entertainment.

This Golf is fitted with a hydraulic suspension and a PlayStation 2. Audio comes through 10 speakers and 4 subwoofers, powered by four amps with a total of 7,000 watts.

This little Scion features more than 20 speakers along with four subwoofers. Its amps put out 4,000 watts.

This Mini gets overwhelmed with six 10-inch subwoofers and six 3.5-inch door-mounted speakers. Its two amps are rated at 5,400 watts all together.

This show car is stuffed with 30 speakers and 14 amps. We counted eight LCDs all the way around it, and were amused by the gull-wing rear doors.

This heavily modified Toyota pickup uses the bed for its five amps, putting out a combined 7,100 watts through 10 speakers.

This H2 uses Hifonics audio equipment to blast its surroundings with 20,000 watts. That power comes from eight amps and 22 speakers. Nine LCDs provide the video.

A BMW kit takes this Civic far from its original design. Its audio system is comprised of four subs, six 6.5-inch speakers, and five amps. It is also fitted with 15 LCDs.

At 9 feet tall, Treo's CXT is the biggest vehicle on the show floor. Its audio system pumps out 24,000 watts. We were amused to see an LCD in the wheel well. Nothing exceeds like excess.
