Photos: Audi goes manic with the A3 and TT Clubsport Quattro

Audi is showing off two high performance concept cars, a TT speedster and an A3, at the 2008 Wörthersee Tour — a gathering for VW and Audi fanboys and fangirls that's currently under way in Austria.

Take one TT convertible and make it unconvertible
Audi has taken the well-regarded TT convertible and turned it into a speedster. Dubbed the TT Clubsport Quattro, Audi has taken away the convertible's windscreen and windows, replacing them with a low-slung wrap-around screen. Because of this the designers have thrown away the standard car's roof and replaced it with two aerodynamic humps aft of the TT's seats.

A speedster needs speed
To that end, Audi has turned up the wick on the TT's 2.0-litre turbo so that there's "at least" 220kW of power.

Almost production ready
Last year, at the same event, Audi showed a less production ready TT speedster (above). The most noticeable changes from last year's car are the different alloy wheels, wing mirrors and wrap-around glass design. Like last year's car, though, the 2008 TT Clubsport Quattro has pumped up guards for that scream "don't mess with me".

Aluminium heaven
For this year's iteration of the TT Clubsport Quattro has spiffed up the interior with lashings of aluminium and orange leather.

A3 meets quattro
The other car on show in Austria is a tricked up A3 that looks like it's almost ready to tackle the World Rally Championship with its assortment wings and spoilers, not to mention the screwed-on Torana SL/R 5000-style wheel guards.

A3 meets R10
Like Audi's R10 race cars, which have won the last two 24 Hours of Le Mans, the A3 Clubsport Quattro features diesel power under the hood. Unlike the R10, which runs a 5.5-litre V12 turbo-diesel, the A3 makes do with a 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 165kW of power and 450Nm of torque.
