The GoGear SA5245BT might just have the coolest menu interface we've seen on a Philips MP3 player. The first three menu options (music, video, pictures) all include thumbnail preview images of the content they contain, much like the Apple iPod Classic. Unfortunately, we hadn't yet loaded the Philips GoGear SA5245BT with music before taking this photo, so the music menu's thumbnail image is just a generic note graphic.

From left to right, the bottom edge of the Philips GoGear SA5245BT includes a sliding hold switch, reset button, USB port, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Unfortunately, having headphones shoot out from the bottom makes the Philips GoGear SA5245BT difficult to prop up on a table for hands-free video viewing.

Along with a standard USB cable and software installation disc, the Philips GoGear SA5245BT comes with an above-average pair of in-canal earbuds and a protective pouch.

The Philips GoGear SA5245BT includes three buttons and a four-way navigation pad for getting around its onscreen user interface. A button above the navigation pad reveals contextual menu options for controlling features such as EQ and Bluetooth, while a button below the pad acts as a back button for jumping out of menus or returning to the main menu. Finally, a button at the center of the navigation pad is used as both a play/pause control and a power switch.

Despite its video-worthy 2.8-inch screen, the Philips GoGear SA5245BT is about the same size as Apple's iPod Classic. It's not the thinnest MP3 player in town, but the Philips GoGear SA5245BT is certainly small enough to fit in your pocket.

The Philips GoGear SA5245BT's sides are completely bare, making it easy to grab the player without fear of hitting a switch accidentally. The use of a streamlined, metallic beveled edge is a nice design touch.
