Aiming high

Design and specs
While inoffensive to gaze upon, the Pantech Breakout is an average slug of black pebbled plastic with a pair of metal accents. It's got a totally decent 4-inch touch screen, a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, and a front-facing VGA camera.

Camera quality
Unfortunately, the front-facing camera took out-of-focus, grainy photos; the video camera produced jerky playback; and the main camera exhibited inconvenient shutter lag.

Side view
On its spines, the Breakout has a convenience key for voice commands, a camera shutter button, and a lock screen/power button.

In the hand
The Breakout felt comfortable in the hand. Its dimpled plastic material helps you keep from losing your grip.
