An LG underdog story

This week, LG announced that despite a decreasing market share, it has sold more than 10 million LTE-enabled smartphones around the world, which is double from last year's numbers. And while it still has yet to dominate the U.S., LG still has plenty of potential considering the number of excellent handsets it has been releasing recently. CNET takes a look at some of our favorites.

LG Optimus G Pro (AT&T)

Available for preorder now, the G Pro is a supersize device with a vibrant 5.5-inch screen that's perfect for gaming and watching videos. It also runs on a powerful Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, so you can be sure its as fast as it is eye-popping.

LG Nexus 4 (T-Mobile)

The Nexus 4 was one of the most popular handsets of the season -- and the most hotly debated. Regardless of what you think about it not being 4G LTE-enabled, however, it's still an excellent phone with its pure Android Jelly Bean experience and ultrasmooth performance.

LG Optimus G (Sprint)

Up until the last two devices came along, we dubbed Sprint's Optimus G to be the absolute best LG handset at the time. And with good reason: Along with its Snapdragon S4 quad-core CPU and True HD IPS+ display, it sports a powerful 13-megapixel camera.

LG Spirit 4G (MetroPCS)

Prepaid networks get LG love too, you know. Currently, the Spirit 4G is going for about $219. In addition to being contract-free, you'll also get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a respectable 5-megapixel camera.

LG Optimus 4X HD (unlocked)

All right, so you won't find the 4X HD in any American store, but feel free to browse eBay for it, because this handset was one of those underrated LG phones that flew under most people's radar. We over at CNET, however, quickly became big fans of it and with its zippy performance and gorgeous 4.7-inch screen, it signaled to us that LG was cranking it up a notch.

Perfect for messaging-enthusiasts on a budget, the Mach from Sprint is a 4G LTE phone with a comfortably sized, five-row keyboard that's competitively priced and features a chic look.
