Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 Windows Phones official pics

The two flagship handsets were announced at Nokia World, and we've got all the official pics. So just what's so great about them?

His pride and joy is an Infocus projector, whose 80-inch picture elevates movie nights to a whole new level.

They were the subject of leaks, leaks and more leaks, but the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 are finally official. And it looks like they were worth the wait.

The 800 is "the first real Windows Phone," Nokia boss Stephen Elop bragged, which shows how much his company is betting on the device. It's basically a reskinned Nokia N9, though considering that MeeGo-running device will never make it to the UK, that's no bad thing.

Previously known as Sea Ray, it's the first Nokia handset to run the Windows Phone mobile OS. It's the 7.5 version, aka Mango. So what of the device itself?

The screen is a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED number, with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. There's 16GB of internal memory, with a healthy if not cutting-edge 512MB of RAM. Contrary to previous rumours it does feature an 8-megapixel auto-focus camera, with a Carl Zeiss lens and LED flash. And video capturing? HD is the order of the day, with 720p at 30fps. Lovely stuff.

The Lumia 800 will be available in black, cyan and magenta on 16 November, for €420 (£365) plus VAT.

Now, the cheaper Lumia 710. It's a slightly more affordable version of the 800, with the same size screen (though it's not Super AMOLED), the same 1.4GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Storage is half the 800, at 8GB, and the camera is also a lower resolution, with a 5-megapixel sensor. It still records HD video at 720p though.

It's also a nod to Nokia's heritage, with changeable covers. Yes! While it may ship with just black or white fascias, you can slap on a black, white, blue, pink or yellow back plate. It's like the 90s all over again.

There's no word on whether the 710 will make it to the UK, but if it does it won't be this year. It'll be available in Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan towards the end of 2011, and "further markets" in 2012. It'll cost €270 (£235) plus VAT.

So two new Nokias, and two reasons the Finnish firm is still very much in the mobile game. What do you think? Impressed or underwhelmed? Let us know in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.
