Nifty mobile phone accessories from CES (photos)
Didn't catch everything at CES? Here's a roundup of some neat mobile phone gadgets we saw on the show floors.
ePure by Swissvoice
I get it--you couldn't possibly have seen everything at CES. Maybe you spent too long staring at LG's 55EM9600 OLED TV or chatting up booth babes. But don't worry about missing the little things when it comes to phone accessories, because I rounded up a few nifty ones that caught my eye.
Tethered handsets for cell phones are nothing new. But I couldn't help but get pulled in by Swissvoice's ePure unit, which is anything but kitschy. Its smooth design and modern lines make it a standout piece in any room.
MD112 by Microlab
Microlab is still looking for a U.S. distributor for its portable speaker, so you can't get these in the states anytime soon. Luckily, I was able to test one out and I was surprised how these little guys can pack a big sound. These speakers have an SD card media reader and an FM radio receiver. They support USB media storage. And they come in a lot of different colors and styles to fit any personality.
Bag of Rhythm by the House of Marley
Wood: Have I told you lately that I love you? Every time designers find a way to integrate wood with technology, I get a little tickled. This portable two-channel audio system for phones (mainly iPhones, but the device includes an aux input) from Marley sports two 4.5-inch high-definition woofers, two 1-inch tweeters, and a powerful amp.
Band by Tylt
Even though I don't know how it will store in my glove compartment, I have to admit that I still kind of want this car charger from Tylt. Unlike the black, boring, coiled up charger I have, this one has been elegantly re-imagined by Tylt. I was told it would be available in three months for all phone types, so for now I'll just have to make do with the pictures.
FRX2 by Eton
If you're ever in the middle of the zombie apocalypse and the power is out, Eton's hand turbine smartphone charger may just give you the jump you need to call for help. It includes an AM, FM, and WB analog radio; a solar panel; a glow-in-the-dark locator; and a dynamo motor hand turbine.
Sphero robotic ball by Orbotix
This little critter, known as Sphero, is a toy ball you can control through your iPhone or Android. It drew quite the crowd at CES this year and was loads of fun to play with. According to its Web site, demand for this ball is pretty backed up, so order while you can.
Juice Pack Plus by Mophie
I don't like to talk about all the times my phone died during big events (ahem, CES), but I can tell you that Mophie saved me from quite a few pickles. What I like most about Mophie's 2000mAh battery is the effortless design. Unlike bulky, dowdy juice packs, the ones from Mophie don't feel like you strapped a brick to your phone.
Earbuds By Skunk Juice
Despite the manufacturer's unfortunate name (it's sort of terrible no matter how you look at it) these earbuds from Skunk Juice proved pretty interesting. By using magnets, they hook up to each other, and you and your buddies can listen to the same song out of one earphone jack. Of course, that does mean your entire posse has to buy Skunk Juice earphones to have a silent dance party, but the idea and the ease of use is cool nonetheless.
Blood pressure monitoring system by iHealth
I got a long ways to go before I have to be concerned about my blood pressure, but as far as that jumbo bag of chips in my cubicle is concerned, I should be paying more attention. Although I don't need to use iHealth's blood pressure monitoring system yet, those who do need to take measures may find great use and convenience in iHealth's product.
