New York streets play host to annual games and tech festival
The Come Out & Play festival celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Welcome to the Come Out & Play Festival!
Hundreds of attendees played in physical and tech-focused games at the annual Come Out & Play festival in New York on a Friday evening in early July. The festival was split up into two parts: After Dark for more device-driven games, and Field Day and Family Day for more sports-related activities.
Participants battle it out on the streets
Two teams compete in Super Ship Sinker, a dodgeball-esque game in which players try to sink their opponent's vessel.
Festival-goers try out #WeAreDanceFace
Players put on virtual reality headsets (made from Google Cardboard) that feed them instructions on which way to bop their heads.
"Selfie Deathmatch" developers prepare to face off
"Selfie Deathmatch" pits players against each other to see who can take the most self-portraits.
Game designers excited to show off their creation
Jon Murray and Yuting Feng showcase Ghosts of Dumbo, in which players walk around a New York neighborhood and play mini games at various locations, all in the pursuit of learning the history of the Dumbo area.
A crowd gathers to play Block Party!
Block Party allows up to 16 players to compete in fast-paced puzzle games together.
DanceFace players about to perform
After strapping on their headsets, players tuned into the beat of electronic dance music, moving their heads in time to directions fed to them.
"The Forger" tests your artistic eye
One of the non-tech-focused games, The Forger, requires players to discern which of two drawings is real and which is a fake.
On to Governors Island for physical games
Attendees enjoy sports-related activities, many geared towards younger children, on day two of the festival.
Last hours of Come Out & Play
Attendees continued to play throughout the second and last day of the event.
