Field of dreams

The new "Justice League" trailer opens with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) finding Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) in a Kansas cornfield.

Happier times

Lois Lane has a reason to smile. After all, Superman died in the 2016 film "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Clark is dreamy in a dream

"I'll take that as a yes," Clark says in the trailer. He's referring to the engagement ring on Lois' hand. But there's more to this moment than meets the eye.

Dust to dust

We get a close up on the ring, but Lois is also holding dirt, which she sprinkles... on Clark's grave. This was just a very bittersweet dream. Could this be the only Superman cameo we'll see in the new movie?

Read all about it!

The Daily Planet newspaper headline says it all -- "World Without Hope." Violence, terrorism and acts of war are all on the rise after the death of Superman. Plus there's a new villain on the horizon -- most likely Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds).

Cue the Bat-Signal

Batman (Ben Affleck) has a plan on how to protect not just Gotham, but the world from a real super-threat: He's gathering the greatest heroes together to fight side by side.

Underwater Aquaman

Even while in his natural sea-habitat, the tattoo-covered Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) looks like a force to be reckoned with.

We're with her

Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) makes a bold statement by posing on top of a golden statue that serves as a strong symbol of fairness and justice.

Cyborg sees all

Cyborg (Ray Fisher) uses his superpowers to check something out, but it's unclear what. With "darker times" ahead, his abilities will come in handy. As a technopath, he can manipulate tech. He's also connected to a Mother Box, which will most likely be very important to the plot.

Flash forward

The Flash (Ezra Miller) is the youngest newcomer to the team, but that doesn't mean he's powers of speed aren't impressive. Plus his character gives us a good dose of optimism -- which is just what this superhero team needs.

Oh hai, Aquaman

Aquaman is most at home in water, but the film has him inland too as he fights alongside his new super friends. Either way, he'll be making waves.

Gone but not forgotten

Superman may be dead, but that doesn't mean the memory of what he represented is lost on his adoring public. Here's a bit of graffiti featured in the trailer that shows Superman is still influencing public perception even though he's long gone.

Lightning fast humor

The Flash shows off his quick-but-dramatic powers throughout the trailer. But he's also clearly the "golly gee whiz" kid that will most likely drive Batman up the wall. In a movie that could have been very depressing, it's good to know there will be some comic relief throughout.

Everyone can be a hero

A cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" replaces the first trailer's The Beatles' "Come Together," which makes us wonder if perhaps everyone -- not just beings with super powers -- will be called upon to be a hero in the film. Here's hoping Wonder Woman's smile reveals that this indeed will be the case, which seems rather poignant in today's troubled times in the real world.
