Nest's Thermostat E costs less but doesn't skimp on smarts

This is Nest's latest thermostat, the $169 Thermostat E. 

The price converts to roughly £130 or AU$210 at the current exchange rate.

The Thermostat E has four fewer wire terminals than the Learning Thermostat. Check the compatibility of your HVAC system before you buy.

The Thermostat E has a similar rounded design, but an off-white plastic finish.

Turn the dial to adjust the temperature and other settings.

Nest's Thermostat E has a "frosted," lower-res display than the Learning Thermostat that gives the screen a subtle blurred/diffused effect.

While it costs $80 less than the Learning Thermostat, the Thermostat E has a lot of the same smart tech, including a learning algorithm and compatibility with Google and Amazon smart speakers.
