NASA wants you to go to Mars (pictures)

NASA released a series of Mars promotional posters online this week to get current and future generations excited about the prospect of moving to the Red Planet to explore, farm, teach and work.

Are you ready for the ultimate adventure? It may be a one-way trip, but humanity needs some strong-minded volunteers to help colonize Mars. This poster plays on the classic Uncle Sam image of the top hat-wearing patriot pointing a finger outward with the message "I want you for U.S. Army." It makes the call to Mars sound so exciting.

NASA's promotional posters calling for Mars explorers feature all sorts of blood-pumping action scenes, like this explorer rappelling into the solar system's largest canyon, Valles Marineris. Come for the beautiful blue sunsets, stay because we don't have the technology to get you back to Earth yet.

When human colonists finally get to Mars, they will have a lot of work to do. This promotional Mars exploration poster from NASA puts out the call for a few brave souls who don't mind building spaceships and habitats while living on a far-off planet.

Are you a night owl? Then sign up for the night shift on Mars' moon Phobos and help out with valuable mining endeavors. "Settlers below on Mars would see Phobos rise and set not once, but twice in one day!" says NASA.

NASA currently has rovers operating on Mars, testing the rocks and getting the lay of the land. When we finally get people to the Red Planet, we will need some experienced surveyors to really get up close with the landscape. This promotional poster hints at the spectacular views.

If we ever launch a full-on human colony on Mars, then we will need teachers for our little Martian kids. This NASA promotional poster highlights the glamorous lifestyle that comes with teaching on Mars. The field trips are out of this world.

Growing fruits and vegetables to feed hungry Mars colonists will be a challenge, which is why NASA is putting out a call for off-world farmers. "New ways of growing fresh food will be needed to keep brave explorers alive," says NASA.
