Our favorite fitness trackers and watches Mom might like.

Scott Stein
I started with CNET reviewing laptops in 2009. Now I explore wearable tech, VR/AR, tablets, gaming and future/emerging trends in our changing world. Other obsessions include magic, immersive theater, puzzles, board games, cooking, improv and the New York Jets. My background includes an MFA in theater which I apply to thinking about immersive experiences of the future.

Misfit Swarovski Shine

Misfit’s newest fitness trackers come with their own embedded Swarovski crystals and can be worn as jewelry. Included pendant and bracelet accessories offer a variety of styles. It lasts for months on a battery, tracks activity and sleep, and glows when you tap it: it’s this season’s flashiest wearable tech.

Fitbit Charge HR

The most versatile recent fitness tracker, the Charge HR has 24-hour heart rate measurement and still manages to fit into a compact band. Fitbit’s software remains the most popular out there, so Mom will find plenty of people to connect with via the Fitbit app.

Jawbone Up24

Jawbone’s newest Up3 band isn’t here yet, but the Up24 is still a great and pretty affordable way to track activity and sleep in a low-key band. It’s the thinnest band around, there are many color options, and there’s a good chance you can find one on sale.

Pebble Watch

The new Pebble Time watch arrives in May, but the original Pebble is affordable ($99), comes in plenty of colors, and works well. It’s plastic and a bit nerdy-looking, but it might be a great fit for a geek Mom.

Apple Watch Sport

We haven’t reviewed the Apple Watch yet, but its design, band options and its smaller 38mm body could make Apple Watch a more attractive smartwatch for Moms that already have iPhones. If you’re prepared to shop for something that costs $350, it might be worth considering.
