Modern movies get their own throwback VHS boxes
Watching movies on VHS may be a thing of the past, but artist Steelberg has given films like "Rogue One," "The Revenant" and "Pacific Rim" retro-looking VHS cover art to remind us of our VCR past.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Considering that many fans saw the '80s "Mad Max" films on VHS tapes, this retro art by artist Steelberg for 2015 "Mad Max: Fury Road" reboot would blend in nicely with the original starring Mel Gibson.
Ghostbusters
The 2016 "Ghostbusters" female-led reboot proved that fans of the original 1984 movie had nothing to worry about. But this VHS art for the reboot actually makes the movie look like a bonafide horror classic.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Many Star Wars fans still hold onto their VHS copies of the Original Trilogy, so this VHS "The Force Awakens" cover art depicting none other than an much older Luke Skywalker holding his lightsaber makes for enticing collectible.
Warcraft: The Movie
This VHS art for the movie "Warcraft, which came out in 2016, looks like it would appeal more to Renaissance faire fans than modern gamers.
The Revenant
Even though the Oscar-winning movie "The Revenant" just came out in 2015, this VHS art makes it look right at home with any violent '70s film about man vs. nature.
True Blood
Dripping with nostalgia, and blood, this VHS art for the horror TV series "True Blood" harkens back to the Hammer vampire movies of the '70s.
Super 8
Even director Steven Spielberg, who served as producer on 2011 "Super 8," would be impressed with this '80s-inspired VHS art, complete with rental stickers.
Pacific Rim
Director Guillermo del Toro's 2013 giant monster flick "Pacific Rim" looks even more like an homage to the original Godzilla movies from the '60s and '70s.
The Hateful Eight
Director Quentin Tarantino's 2015 "The Hateful Eight" paid tribute to the spaghetti westerns of the '70s, and this VHS cover art could easily be confused with a gritty Sam Peckinpah cowboy flick.
The Martian
Anyone who's searched for the perfect sci-fi film while walking through the aisles at Blockbuster video-rental stores knows that VHS art made all the difference. This art for the 2015 movie "The Martian" perfectly captures the loneliness and wonder a left-behind astronaut feels throughout the film.
Armada
"Armada" isn't even a movie yet. It's the latest science fiction novel by Ernest Cline. But when it does finally get released, here's hoping the movie poster looks a lot like this "Last Starfighter"-inspired VHS art.
Zombieland
One can't have a zombie movie without buckets of blood. This VHS movie art reminds horror fans that while the 2009 film "Zombieland" had its funny moments, these zombies are nightmare-worthy.
Cloverfield
Remember creature features? This VHS art for the 2008 movie "Cloverfield" is a perfect shout out to the alien monsters in horror films from the '70s and '80s.
Creed
Rocky Balboa has been around since the '70s, so giving the 2015 "Creed" movie the same kind of "Rocky" VHS art makes for a knockout tribute.
Deadpool
Superhero movies like 2016's "Deadpool" need something a little special to remind fans that he's not the typical kind of crime fighter. This VHS art shows Deadpool's less attractive side.
Mad Max: Fury Road (again)
"Mad Max: Fury Road" made such an impression on artist IAmSteelberg that this second VHS art tribute was created.
Star Trek
Star Trek fans have been renting and buying VHS tapes of both the multiple TV series and movies the franchise has created for over 50 years. Director J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" movie reboot gets a fitting retro VHS makeover.
Spine-tingling VHS art
Anyone with a massive collection of VHS tapes stored on shelves knows that the spine art should be just as eye-catching as the front of the box covers.
Cabin in the Woods
Joss Whedon's 2011 "Cabin in the Woods" flipped horror film tropes on their side and included everything from curses to killer unicorns. This VHS box art gives the film the retro respect it deserves.
Ready Player One
Author Ernest Cline's sci-fi adventure novel "Ready Player One" is already on its way to be an action-packed movie, debuting in 2018. Until then, this VHS box art encapsulates all the exciting moments and characters from the bestselling book.
You're Next
Many horror movies of the '70s and '80s understood that not all women are damsels in distress. This VHS art for the 2011 indie horror film "You're Next" depicts the leading lady with an axe, ready for revenge.
Stranger Things
The 2016 Netflix original TV series "Stranger Things" mixes elements of '80s sci-fi adventure classics such as "Goonies," "E.T." and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," and this VHS cover art reflects that.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
"Rogue One," which debuts December 2016, tells the Star Wars tale from even longer ago than "A New Hope," so the VHS art here reminds fans of the original VHS art for the film that started it all in 1977.
VHS back covers included
Reading the back of the VHS box covers were almost as fun as watching the movies. So of course, artist IAmSteelberg included them in his series.
