Mini Clubman is longer than ever (pictures)

The all-new, 2016 Mini Clubman had its American debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. Now with proper conventional rear doors and a split-door in the rear, Mini hopes the car can compete in the compact premium segment.

The optional Mini Excitement package offers up LED interior and ambient lighting, and will even throw the Mini logo onto the ground via a projector in the driver's side mirror whenever the door is open or closed.

The newly available Comfort Access keyless entry permits hands-free opening of the split rear doors. A quick kick under the rear apron activates the automatic opening mechanism.

The 2016 Mini Clubman is available in both metallic and nonmetallic colors. New for this year are Melting Silver and Pure Burgundy.

The 2016 Mini Clubman is available with 16, 17 or 18-inch wheels, depending on trim level. LED headlamps, Mini driving modes and dynamic damper control are all optional as well.

The center stack features a standard 6.5-inch or optional 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. A redundant dial control is placed behind the shifter for distraction-free operation.

Mini Clubman

A six-speed manual transmission is standard on both the Cooper and Cooper S trim lines. The Cooper trim line has an available six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, while the Cooper S has an optional eight-speed Steptronic or Steptronic sport automatic transmission.

The available Mini Connected XL Journey Mate system will plan routes and offer information along that route. There are also a whole slew of optional driver assist programs like a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, collision and pedestrian warnings and a rearview camera.
