MacOS High Sierra has some really cool new features
Apple announced a brand new operating system today for the Mac, the High Sierra. Here are its new features.
The new MacOS, version 10.13, is named High Sierra. Feel free to make your own jokes.
Faster Safari
Apple says the new MacOS will include a new version of Safari that's 80 percent faster than the previous version.
Better privacy
The new Safari browser will also have better privacy thanks to its new Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature, which stops websites from keeping tabs on their users.
Better Mail
The new OS will include a new version of Mail that's now integrated with Spotlight for better searching, uses 35 percent less storage space to store emails and gives you a split view.
Better Photo
The Photo app in High Sierra now has better facial recognition and edition tools. It also syncs all of the metadata across devices.
Better printing
The new OS has better support for printing, especially for printed books.
New file system
High Sierra will use the new Apple File System (APFS) as a new default file system instead of HFS Plus. This new file system has lots of improvements including the ability to instantly duplicate a very large amount of data.
High Efficiency Video Encoding
High Sierra now support H.265, which is a much improved version of the H.264 codec with a compression level of up to 40 percent.
Metal 2
The new OS has a new graphics API called Metal 2 that's some 10 times faster in draw call throughput than the first Metal. This means gaming will be much better.
External graphics and virtual reality
High Sierra's new graphic engine also allows for external graphics via Thunderbolt 3 and applications for virtual reality.
